Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think (Exponential Technology Series)

Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think

The New York Times bestselling “manifesto for the future that is grounded in practical solutions addressing the world’s most pressing concerns: overpopulation, food, water, energy, education, health care and freedom” (The Wall Street Journal).Since the dawn of humanity, a privileged few have lived in stark contrast to the hardscrabble majority. Conventional wisdom says this gap cannot be closed. But it is closing—fast. In Abundance, space entrepreneur turned innovation pioneer Peter H. Diamandis and award-winning science writer Steven Kotler document how progress in artificial intelligence, robotics, digital manufacturing synthetic biology, and other exponentially growing technologies will enable us to make greater gains in the next two decades than we have in the previous 200 years. We will soon have the ability to meet and exceed the basic needs of every person on the planet. Abundance for all is within our grasp. Breaking down human needs by category—water, food, energy, healthcare, education, freedom—Diamandis and Kotler introduce us to innovators and industry captains making tremendous strides in each area. “Not only is Abundance a riveting page-turner…but it’s a book that gives us a future worth fighting for. And even more than that, it shows us our place ...

Epithelial Cell Culture: Methods and Protocols (Methods in

This detailed book explores the most current techniques to study systems and epithelial cell culture. Beginning with an overview, the volume then continues to detail systems that seek to mimic the three-dimensional organization, epithelial cells from different organs, gastrointestinal system, thyroid, salivary gland, ovary, mammary gland, and olfactory epithelial tissue. Cell culture is a fundamental technique in both medical research and drug discovery and  two-dimensional (2D) culture has been the preferred method, due to the ease with which cell monolayers can be induced to proliferate on planar surfaces. The book propose several functional assay useful to test  cell activities. Further,  The past decades have witnessed significant efforts toward the development of three-dimensional (3D) cell cultures. Today, 3D cell cultures are emerging not only as a new tool in early drug discovery, but also as potential therapeutics to treat disease. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include the kind of detail and key implementation advice that leads to excellent results in the lab.

Stem cell and Cell line: A Little Science

This book bring the basic concept in the area of genetics, will be useful to student of pharmacy, medical and paramedical branches.Concept of stem cell and cell line provides clear introduction about how the targeted and advance therapy works in curative and palliative treatment of various diseases.Stem cell biology has a great potential in saving many lives. Stem cell research lies on embryo cells or adult stem cells because they can grow into all types of cells and tissues in the body.It can cure many diseases like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, malignancies, inborn errors of metabolism,Diabetes and many more. Using Stem cell and cell line therapy, organ donations could be reduced in favor of introducing new cell grown in lab instead of new organs from living or recently deceased donors.

Stem Cell: Webster's Timeline History, 2004 -

Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Stem Cell," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Stem Cell in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Stem Cell when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Stem Cell, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. Cancer Stem Cell Features In Established Melanoma Cell Lines: Developing a cancer stem cell model in melanoma cell lines

Cancer Stem Cell Features In Established Melanoma Cell

Cancer is increasingly being viewed as a stem cell disease. According to the cancer stem cell hypothesis, tumour initiation and growth are driven by a minor subset of stem-cell-like cancer cells. These cancer stem cells (CSC) self-renew to give rise to additional CSC and differentiate to generate phenotypically diverse progeny with limited proliferative potential. CSC are capable of reconstituting tumours upon transplantation relative to bulk tumour cells or non-tumourigenic cancer cells. This model, first developed in human myeloid leukaemia, has been extended to solid tumours, such as breast and brain cancer. Most cancer stem cells were first isolated based on the expression of surface markers to distinguish CSC from cancer cells with more limited proliferative potential. CSC are usually rare in clinical specimens and hardly amenable to functional studies or to analysis of gene expression profiles. In this study a panel of melanoma cell lines was screened to identify cellular reagents sharing typical CSC features including expression of specific surface markers and genes, capacity to grow in spheroids and high clonogenic capacity.

Stem Cell Banking (Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine)

Stem Cell Banking (Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative

This book exemplifies experience across the globe in banking of cord blood, mesenchymal, embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells for clinical use from the United States, Canada, the European Union, Switzerland and Japan to Iran, India and Serbia. The concerns are similar regardless of stem cell type or origin. Implementing core values and common standards depend often on specific circumstances of political and economic setting, which makes flexibility as important as systematic planning. Banking of stem cells is not just building a repository and storing samples. The planning, design, construction and maintenance involve multiple skilled professionals. Stem cell banks are points where technology and medicine converge with ethics, laws and regulations. If properly designed and organized, their utilization will have a broad impact not only on the scientific community and medical professionals but also on the general public.
